More Employers Are Valuing ‘Career Training’
When it comes to leaving school and deciding where to head next, university has always been plugged as the clear option for anyone wanting to get ahead in their chosen career. But even university leavers with honours degrees are coming up against more competition than ever, and many employers are valuing experienced based ‘career training’ qualifications over others as they prove the candidates have more ‘employable skill sets’.
Official statistics from the HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) have shown that the majority of British graduates leaving higher education after a three year degree and failing to land a job in their chosen career path, with 10% unemployed six months after graduating, and many working underpaid temp jobs such as shelf stacking or warehouse work until ‘something better comes along’.
But something better doesn’t just come along in this economic climate, and critics blame the lack of job security for university graduates on the fact that graduates are leaving university with ‘standard, ten to a penny degrees’ that don’t offer the employer any added benefits and don’t stand out as employable in a struggling job market.
it in many industries are now urging school leavers to consider alternatives to university that are both cheaper and provide them with a more definable skill set, and are also urging those who have already undertaken their degree to seek further career training to make them more employable.
If graduates had taken the career training route instead of the university route, critics say they would be in far less debt and have much better work prospects due to gaining more marketable skills.
It would seem that the education systems self-benefiting bias in pushing for students to go to universities and gain degrees over relevant career training in order to secure their dream job has diluted the job market, leading to a ship loadof overqualified graduates fighting to gain even an underpaid temporary position to make ends meet.
So university isn’t all it was advertised to be? Do something about it. Gain career training through Pitman Training Swords and gain a definable, marketable skill set to make you stand out from the job market crowds and secure your place on the ladder to your dream career.
