Do you get that Monday morning feeling every day of the week? Do your days off go far too fast and you always feel like you need a holiday? These are just some of the tell-tale signs that you aren’t happy in your job, and sadly too many of us don’t do anything about it!
Achieving job happiness isn’t that difficult, once you get to the root of the problem. Here are 3 common reasons people are unhappy in their current job, and how to change that:
Reason #1: You’re Over-Skilled or Over-Qualified
You took that course and gained that diploma or qualification, but then you couldn’t get a job in it right away so you settled with something a bit lower... And never left.
If your skills and knowledge aren’t being used to their full potential, it’s no wonder you are feeling unfulfilled on a regular basis. You aren’t challenging yourself or using the training you worked so hard on!
Make a Change: Discuss your feelings with your manager, and ask to take on some new challenges and added responsibility. If they can’t offer you something that matches your potential, start looking for an employer who can!
Reason #2: You Hate The Working Hours
Unfortunately not every job has sociable working hours where you can start at 9 and end at 5, with the weekends all to yourself. And this can impact on family/social life, making you resent your job.
If working hours are ruining your life, it’s time to take the plunge and start considering a new career move. It might seem scary, but when you weigh up the pros and cons it’s a little hard work for a lot of reward. Imagine those evenings and weekends you would have to spend with family and friends!
Make a Change: Consider an office-based position such as a secretary, office manager or other administrative position. With some career training, you could walk into a position in as little as 12 weeks!
Reason #3: It’s Not Your Dream Job
Too many people settle for the job they can get rather than going for their dream job. But when you consider that we spend the most part of our lives at work, why should we settle for an unfulfilling job?
Your dream job doesn’t have to be unattainable; it just takes some confidence, patience and hard work. Yes, hard work! But if it means getting to do something you love day in day out, then what’s a little hard work when the rewards are endless?
Make a Change: Your dream job, whatever it may be, is closer to reality than you realise. With some career training to start you off, you could work your way up the ladder in a career that you love.
