How Do I Become … An IT Technician

Imagine being the person who everyone turns to when something goes wrong with the computers. You’d feel pretty important! And rightly so. IT Technicians keep the country running, without computers we’d grind to a standstill.

We get enquiries asking how to become an IT Technician - perhaps for a job in  a school. Here’s how:

Skills
Certification
Experience
Some basic computer knowledge is essential.
If you have been working with computers, or interested in them, for a few years, you probably already have the skills you need.
The minimum qualification you need to embark of IT Technical training is ECDL.
If you have that you can go straight onto the A+ (CompTIA) courses.
There are just 2 certification exams at the end of your training – we can recommend exam centres for you to select from.
Jobs now are asking for experience – especially the American companies who have lots of vacancies.
The best way to find work experience is to offer yourself for free to local businesses. We can help you with this.
You don’t need to work full-time, or for years and years, you just need a bit of time in a work environment so you know what you will be facing in the job.

That’s is for this month. Hope you enjoy the summer break, if you’re having one – or the less crowded route to work if you’re not
