Overseas Students Succeed At Pitman

Sylwia had made a decision to do a course and get higher qualifications, because she wasn’t happy with her job in a Catering company. She didn’t want to serve any more tea, coffee or sandwiches! As she is an ambitious, open, friendly, person she thought that a job as a Receptionist or Secretary would suit her and looked online for courses. But she was concerned that, as she comes from Poland, her English language skills would let her down.

She says:

Among a lot of courses listed, Pitman Training Swords drew my attention. I made an appointment to meet the Centre Course Adviser, Roy Lalor. I was concerned about my English language skills but after meeting Roy all my concerns were dispelled and I started to do a Secretarial Diploma.

At the beginning it was quite hard for me. I had to learn a lot of vocabulary completely new to me and I kept using the rewind button on the courses to understand the instructions properly. But with time I noticed that my English was getting better and better. That was the great motivation for me. I also got great support from Stanislawa, the Centre Supervisor, who is also Polish!

Pitman Training Centre offers flexible study options and considering my shift work that was the best solution for me. I never felt under pressure that I wouldn’t finish my courses on time.

When my Diploma was nearly completed I started to send out my CV with my new skills and qualifications on it. I didn’t change my job straightaway but I was very determined to find a new job. As a result of my job searching I got a position as Receptionist in a dental clinic. So I started my new career and I love my new job!

The centre staff were so helpful and patient and gave me valuable advice during and after my training.

I would highly recommend Pitman Training Swords to anyone. In my opinion it is never too late to change something in your life.”

Swords is a cosmopolitan place and Sylwia is one of many students who originally came from other countries. They find that our self-paced training, which has recorded audio instead of a classroom teacher, works brilliantly for them. As Sylwia said, the audio can be rewound as often as needed to make sure it is understood and there is no competition between students, every progresses at their own pace.

If you are from overseas and concerned about studying in a college or university, you may find that our courses suit you perfectly. Come and see us and meet Stanislawa, she can tell you her experiences of studying and working in Ireland.

We knew all these stories – and hundreds more – but it is still heart-warming to read them again. Wouldn’t you like your success story to appear in one of our future newsletters and inspire others? Give us a call today or pop in for a chat. We’ll be delighted to see you.
