 Foreign Shores For Lorraine

Lorraine had emigrated to Canada in May 2011 with her partner. She had worked at home in Ireland, mostly in the Hair and Beauty industry, but fancied a career change and wanted to be a Medical Secretary. That proved difficult without suitable qualifications.

She looked into studying in Toronto but the courses there were between $11,000 and $15,000 and took a minimum of 9 months. She would have been unable to work and study at the same time under her Visa conditions so the cost implications were huge.

After hearing about Pitman Training Swords through a friend at home who had done a Legal Secretary Diploma, she decided to travel home to study. She says:

“I flew home and started with Pitman in December and gave it 100%. Thankfully I finished at the end of February - with the help and support of the staff at Pitman. They were very accommodating and always there to help me out and I honestly could not have finished as quickly as I did without them.

When I arrived back in Canada I was afraid that the Pitman diploma would not be recognized internationally but I am now currently working as a Medical Receptionist in one of the main hospitals in Toronto! My only regret is not doing the course before I left Ireland in May 2011.

Lorraine was about to complete her Diploma quickly because the course is very flexible. Other people prefer to combine their study with work and take longer.
